Carrie's Field Trip

4000 year old copper mine. The miners would build a stone
arch at the mines so everyone would know it was a copper mine.
You can still find sme of the slag (molten ore) on the ground.

Some sand dunes and ripples. Typical desert scene.

Some more rock and sand. It was really windy at this spot and the
blowing sand got stuck to the sunsceen so it was like sandpaper.

The Geologists who do field work in this area call the rock in the
background the Sphinx.

Desert sunset at the camp spot.

The first camp spot.

Carrie in the Oman desert.

As you may have noticed, it has been a while since we last updated the blog. That's because not much has been happening in Oman out of the ordinary. Carrie has been working and Rod has been taking care of the household. We have gotten into a bit more of a routine now and settled in quite well.
A couple of weeks ago Carrie went on a Geology field trip for work. The field trip was held about 6 hours south of Muscat near the eastern coast of Oman. The scenery was pretty much as expected, flat desert in the interior of Oman. The weather was warm (but not too hot) and it was quite windy which meant Carrie got a little sand blasted.

There were heaps of wild camels and donkeys and lots of feral goats, other than that, not a lot of wildlife.
The trip was for 3 nights and that was plenty considering the lack of facilities (real camping except for the fact that all the cooking was done by a chef!).
